I have been posting lots of our DIY projects that have gone into getting our office ready and shared lots of little sneak peeks on Instagram, but today’s the day I finally share all the glory of our new white, gold and black office! I’m just going to give a brief overview of the office here and I’ll go into detail about some of the organizational things we’ve done in other posts.
Our office is actually a space off of our living room as I mentioned in our living room tour. Our living room is actually a very long space and runs the entire depth of our house. It is the single story room you see when looking at the front our of house. Because of this we really had a good amount of wasted space behind the couch. I didn’t want to spread our living room thin so I thought what better place than to put our office in that unused space.
It’s right off the entry too so it’s a great catch all for the mail, coupons, packages, bags, etc that come with everyone when they get home.
As you can see, November is always a very busy month for us!
We have two windows flanking the desk that bring in so much natural light and really let me feel more relaxed when I’ve got the blinds pulled up and curtains pulled back.
Speaking of curtains, you can find out exactly how I styled these HERE!
Above the desk, I hung two gold mirrored tealight candle sconces that I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby (although I’ve seen them on the shelf again at regular price) on either side of our one of our favorite wedding photos…hard to believe that was almost 6 years ago!
In the corner to the left of the desk is the beautiful DIY gold etagere…once again, fits the space beautifully! This was a DIY that was so easy it didn’t even need a post! Just follow the tips in the post for painting the Gold Lamp and while you are at Ikea getting your lamp, go grab the etagere for only $49!!!! The only extra tid bit to know is I did go to Hobby Lobby and had them cut 2 pieces of glass for the top and bottom shelves so all the shelves were glass. The shelf originally comes with 2 pieces of board for the top and bottom so I took one of those into the store with me and had them cut a piece of glass to match it. I went into the store two different times so I could use a 40% off coupon on each piece of glass to save more money. I think it was under $20 to get both pieces though.
The shelves are a little bare now because I just cleared off a bunch of stuff that didn’t need to be in the office anymore. I’m trying to keep this space free of clutter because I feel more inclined to be productive when this space is clean.
Our most recent edition are these amazing black and gold prints from Hobby Lobby you may notice from Instragram. They really tie the classic white/gold/black color scheme into the our living room. Gotta love the microphone stand and guitar…life a musician means you keep your instrument where you are most often so it’s close when the mood to play strikes.
So here’s the work we’ve done so far:
Painted the walls the same as the living room…Sherwin Williams Natural Choice
Desk Makeover with gold hardware
Created the command center
Hung the sconces and wedding photo
Bought a new computer
Hung the curtains
Organized the desk and purged all the things (and lots of stuff) we didn’t need or use
Hung the new artwork
Work left to do:
Create the filing cabinet-cabinet (it’ll be a post on it’s own)
Reorganize our manuals from THIS set up to the black and white stripe binders
Eventually file all that mess in the command center…
I’d love to see your pictures of your offices especially if you do any work from home as a side hustle or maybe your full time gig!
